We are lucky to have a fabulous Nursery class at Mildmay Infant & Nursery School. The children in the ‘Dear Zoo’ class have a base which is set across two light and spacious classrooms with toilet and changing facilities specially adapted for young children. The children have their own large outdoor area and access to the Early Years Playground where they can play with both small and large play equipment including bikes and scooters which they love. Last year we invested in a new surface and fencing for the children and we are continuing to invest further funds this year to provide the best possible outdoor learning resources for the children.
Our Nursery is run by qualified teachers and Nursery Nurses who are specialised in the education of young children. They understand how under fives learn and provide play based activities which are differentiated to extend the learning opportunities for all children in a fun and relaxed way.
The children share outdoor space and assembly times with the Reception children enabling them to make friends with children in the year above. This helps the children settle as they move up through the school.
Children are accepted into our Nursery the term following their third birthday. We have three Nursery intakes during the academic year, September, January and Easter. We offer ‘Little Robins’ sessions during the term prior to your child starting Nursery. These are sessions where you and your child can experience a variety of activities in our fantastic early years area. We currently offer five morning or afternoon sessions a week. Further details can be found in our Prospectus.
If you are interested in your child joining our Nursery please contact the school office on 01245 250021 and ask to speak to Mrs Lewis. You can also download our Waiting List Form.
Autumn Term in Nursery
This term the nursery children have been very busy settling into routines and making lots of new friends! We have enjoyed exploring the toys and games that are in nursery and have practised playing with these together, sharing and asking nicely for things.
Our first topic has been ‘Under the Sea’. We have enjoyed learning about all the different sea creatures using non-fiction books and finding out funny facts! We then made repeating patterns with a fish stamp, making sure we checked carefully which colour came next.
We have noticed that the weather has changed lots over the last few months so we decided to go on an Autumn walk in October to look for signs of these weather changes. We found lots of crispy brown and yellow leaves that had fallen off the trees so we collected these and bought them back into our classroom. We then decided to make hedgehogs out of paper plates and the leaves we had collected. Look how prickly they are!
We have all been very excited to practise and perform our Christmas performance to our mummy’s, daddy’s and carers and have enjoyed singing and signing the Christmas songs. Our favourite song is ‘Santa got stuck’!
